Preparing for DSA Debate & Public Speaking

Preparing for the Direct School Admission applications can be a very daunting task for parents and children alike. Book a 1-hour consultation session with one of our very experienced debate coaches who have coached Debate programmes at Primary Schools, will review your child’s debate achievements and experience, and develop a plan to enhance their portfolio. You will also understand more about our intensive Preparing for DSA Debate programme and how our coaches will work with your child one-on-one to identify areas of improvement, polish and strengthen their debating portfolio, and develop their confidence by coaching your child through various debate competitions and tournaments that they are participating in through a teaser segment with your child within this session.

Preparing for DSA Drama

Looking to find out more about the Direct School Admission exercise? Book a 1-hour one-on-one consultation session with one of our highly trained drama coaches to learn more about the DSA process and how to coach your child if they are looking to qualify for DSA through Drama. This session would also feature a teaser session of our Preparing for DSA Drama programme which aims to equip children who are looking to improve their drama achievements in preparation for their DSA applications through drama. The teaser session would also introduce how the drama coach will identify performance and communication skills to be improved on and will make recommendations such as LAMDA and Trinity Guild certifications to improve their drama portfolio and guide them through their performance preparations.

Debate and Public Speaking

DSA Prep for Drama Programme

DSA Prep by The Global Citizen Academy seeks to support students from the Primary 2 to Primary 6 level with ample preparation to ace their DSA applications. The programme will be a full roadmap to prepare students from as young as 7 years old for their DSA which they will subsequently apply for at age 11. Whether students join at Primary 2 or Primary 5, they will be prepared for the DSA application process as much as time permits. Through our Preparing for DSA Drama programme, students will gain an awareness of speech sounds and improve articulation, be able to communicate characters, poems and stories with clarity and expression, and develop their confidence and competence in interacting and working with a variety of peers, in a variety of contexts. Students will also be given activities that will allow them to overcome their fear and inhibitions of performing or presenting their ideas before an audience in a variety of speaking situations e.g. storytelling, impromptu speaking and persuasive speaking. Students will also be guided by our coaches to prepare for certifications and exams that they would take from London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and Trinity College London as well as be given opportunities to participate in external performances and showcases to develop their performance experience. All students in our DSA Prep programmes will also develop the ability to present themselves appropriately and confidently during an interview. Expect your child to gain a sense of confidence in public speaking and effective communication, and have a firm grasp of general interview requirements and skills required for the DSA application.

DSA Prep for Debate and Public Speaking Programme

Through our Preparing for DSA Debate & Public Speaking programme, students will be empowered with persuasive speech; logical reasoning; the ability to understand and read people’s reactions; and the willingness to listen to others’ arguments, even if it is conflicting. Students will work on developing and refining their debating and argument skills. Students will learn argumentation basics, rebuttal tactics, style, strategy and case planning techniques. Debating engages students in real, complex social problems while forcing them to understand both sides of an issue deeply and communicate their positions clearly. All students in DSA Prep for Public Speaking will have the opportunity to receive communication certificates from London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and Trinity College London. They will also be given opportunities to expand their debating experience through debate competitions and conferences.All students in our DSA Prep programmes will also develop the ability to present themselves appropriately and confidently during an interview.
