JUNE HOLIDAY PROGRAMMES

Executive Summary

The June Holiday program features six programs for primary school level students in Singapore to enroll in during the June school holidays. They are AXIOM Junior Debate, Creative Writing, Drama, Junior Entrepreneurs, Preparing for DSA Interviews, DSA (Secondary) Application Seminar for Parents, and Parent-Child Photo Walk. An overview of each of the programmes are presented below. 

Venue of Programmes 

The June Holiday programmes will be conducted at Anglo-Chinese School Independent (ACSI). The program will be limited to 30 students per workshop when conducted in-person in order to comply with the Safe Management Measure (SMM) regulations. 

For the Parent-Child Photo walk, the photo walk will be conducted at the Botanic Gardens and group sizes will follow the current SMM regulations on group sizes.

The DSA (Secondary) Application Webinar for Parents will be conducted virtually via Zoom.
In the event Safe Management Measures are tightened, the in-person programmes will be cancelled and refunds will be provided, however, participants will be updated on virtual June Holiday programmes.

Target Group 

The target group will be Primary school students in Singapore, from ages 10 – 12 years old who are interested in building their confidence and developing their critical thinking and public speaking skills for AXIOM Junior Debate and Junior Entrepreneurs.

For the Drama workshop and Creative Writing workshops, the target group will be primary school students aged 7 - 9 years old.

For the Preparing for DSA Interviews workshop, the target group will be primary school students aged 11 - 12 years old, who are looking to apply for the Direct School Admission Exercise in May this year.
For the Parent-Child Photo walk, the target group will be primary 4 to primary 6 students, aged 10 - 12 years old.

Junior AXIOM Debate

Program Information

Ages 10 - 12 years
The Global Citizen’s Junior Axiom Debate Programme consists of a debate masterclass which aims to inculcate a love of learning, a passion for debating and a flair for speaking. Through a variety of training activities, students can look forward to an exciting programme crafted by internationally renowned coaches. Grounded in the format of the World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC), each module will focus on a specific skill set so that students will become sufficiently familiar with the art of debating, be it in the WSDC format or otherwise. At the end of the program, students will participate in a mock debate which will be recorded for parents to view.

  • Provide students with opportunities to expand thinking, to speak confidently on a wide range of topical and social issues, and to persuade an audience with creative, well-structured arguments;
  • Provide a platform to express their views and be flexible in the articulation of thoughts;
  • Equip students with strong debating fundamentals; and
  • Enable students to work cohesively in a team.

CREATIVE WRITING

Program Information

Ages 7 - 9 years old
Through this Creative Writing program, students will be introduced to the basics processes of writing, creating setting and atmosphere, character development and dialogue. Students will embark on activities that will help them plan, structure and create their own story. At the end of the workshop, students will showcase their stories through a presentation which will be recorded and shared with parents.

  • Examine how memorable characters can be developed and illustrate that through character crafting exercises
  • Exploring how dialogue is used to define characters desires and motivations
  • Discover how sensory aids helps illustrate setting and builds atmosphere

Drama

Program Information

Ages 7 - 9 years old
In our Drama three-day workshop, students will develop their skills in dramatization and presentation skills. They will participate in various activities to understand performance acting techniques and will work towards developing a showcase at the end of the program. The showcase will be recorded and will be made available for parents to view.

Junior Entrepreneurs

Program Information

Ages 10 - 12 years old
Our Junior Entrepreneurs workshop is designed to provide students with an interactive global citizenship education program, framed around sustainability. It aims to show the importance of civic responsibility and engagement; as well as develop students’ competencies, such as critical thinking and communication skills. Using a holistic and interactive approach, our program provides our participants with an innovative and engaging approach to learning about the world and how we can contribute to global society as global citizens while incorporating leadership skills, community service and project management skills into the learning process.

Join our DSA (Secondary) application webinar to understand the application process for DSA (Secondary). Through this seminar conducted by our experienced DSA Prep coaches, you will be better prepared to submit your child's DSA application and will understand more about what popular secondary schools are looking out for in an application and the follow up procedures should your child be shortlisted by the school of their choice. Preparing for DSA Interviews

Program Information

Ages 11 - 12 years old
Our Preparing for DSA Interviews workshop is designed for students looking to apply for the Primary 6 Direct School Admission Exercise this year, with skills, talents and experiences they have developed. Through our workshop, we help students understand what to expect in a DSA interview, how to prepare for the interview and how to bring focus to their experiences and talent during the interview. Their interviews will be recorded for parents to view.

  • Understand how to tailor their experiences, skills and talent through the development of a portfolio
  • Enable students to learn how to be mindful of social etiquette required for such interviews, and how to effectively build rapport with the interviewer;

Parent-Child Photo Walk 

Program Information

(Parent + Child Workshop) 
In our three-hour photo walk, children will be working with their parents to explore the world of photography. Children will develop their sense of framing and bond with their parents. The program will culminate in an in-person exercise at the Botanic Gardens Singapore where students will be using their issued film cameras to capture 25 images. These images will be developed, printed and delivered back to each parent-child group.
